We've reviewed hundreds of websites over the years that don't convert.
Here are 15 things weβve found...Β
π Make the H1 count
Your H1 is the first (and most prominent) element we see. Make that hook BIG and juicy.
π€ Donβt be clever, be clear
Leave the puns behind, they don't travel well. Instead just be super clear on what you do.
β Social proof in your copy
Social proof isn't just logos. Find ways to showcase your success in the page copy.
π
Increase site speed
Slow websites kill sessions faster than a bad joke in a comedy gig. Make sure your website is fast.
π½ Video proof
Video is sticky, engaging and can pack in a lot of information. Use video to introduce yourself and for testimonials.
β Product GIFs are gold
They are easy to create and bring instant movement to the page.
π¬ Talk to the user
Make everything about the user. The struggles they have, the curiosity they have and ultimately how this can help them.
β 1 Call to action (2 max)
Focus everything on 1 simple CTA, asking for the minimum information and using the easiest method to convert. I like to add a 2nd lead magnet for those not ready to commit.
πΎ Interactive detail
It doesn't take much to refine a website to be more interactive using simple animations, state changes and effects. It increases the overall perception of a professional brand.
πΉ The homepage focus
A homepage is not an overview of other pages. It the first and most important landing page to your offering and it's purpose is to lead the user to the next logical step. Don't waste this space with about us sections of blog posts unless necessary.
π» Beauty in simplicity
Keep the overall design simple, sharp and clean.
πΎ No buzzwords, just value props.
Leave the jargon for the next person. Just say how you help people and the benefits you bring. Repeat often.
π» Create an ideal above the fold (ATF)
Menu, Hero + H1, Button, and a little bit of social proof should all fit above the fold.
π CTAs should do exactly what they say
Make sure the button tells the user exactly what will happen next.
π° Make your pricing accessible
Don't hide pricing behind gated pages. Put it on the homepage or a pricing page.Β
